The Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has received more time from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to finetune the technical parameters of the 4G network for BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited). BSNL’s 4G network launch is expected in a soft manner on August 15, 2022. But according to a recent report from ET Telecom, TCS, BSNL’s partner in deploying an indigenous 4G network throughout India, has received additional time from the DoT (till July 2022 end) for finetuning the technical parameters....

BSNL Issues Changes to Long Term Subscription Pricing BSNL has issued a new notification recently in which it has made some changed to the rental amount which the subscribers will be required to pay in the case of broadband plans if they opt for long term connections like 12 months or more. It is worth noting that these new changes will also be applicable to the DSL plans from BSNL as well....

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) has been approved by the Empowered Technology Group (ETG) to issue a fresh tender inviting global vendors to upgrade 57,000 of its sites to make them 4G compatible. Finnish vendor Nokia along with Ericsson and Samsung, are expected to participate in the tender process of the telco. According to an ET Telecom report, ETG has given its nod to BSNL for going ahead with its hybrid 4G plan....

Revision of Rs 186 Prepaid Voucher and Rs 187 STV The first major update that we are talking about has happened to the Rs 186 prepaid plan which had recently made a comeback to the BSNL prepaid portfolio. A while back BSNL had withdrawn the Rs 186 PV, and then the telco had introduced the plan a while back. But, now this plan has undergone revision. Previously, this plan was offering 2GB data per day with an after-FUP speed of 40 Kbps....

As we reported last month, BSNL is getting aggressive in the postpaid segment with three postpaid plans of Rs 199, Rs 798 and Rs 999. Alongside launching these plans, the telco removed the existing postpaid plans of Rs 99, Rs 225, Rs 325, Rs 799 and Rs 1,125. BSNL brought these new plans to compete with the latest postpaid offerings from Reliance Jio. Jio’s Postpaid Plus plans start at Rs 399, but the basic plan costs Rs 199 only....

BSNL has revised the Rs 199 postpaid plan once again to match the similarly priced plan of Reliance Jio. Revised in December 2020, BSNL used to offer unlimited on-net calling and just 300 off-net minutes for an entire month. After the latest revision, the Rs 199 BSNL postpaid plan will offer truly unlimited voice calling to any network within India including Mumbai and Delhi in MTNL network. Other benefits of the Rs 199 plan remain the same- 100 SMSes per day and 25GB of data with rollover up to 75GB....

After serving the market for years with DSL connections, BSNL started offering fibre broadband services to customers in different regions of India under the brand Bharat Fibre. BSNL International Wi-Fi Service: What is It? As noted, the International Wi-Fi service from BSNL allows a user to connect partner Wi-Fi hotspots located across the globe. BSNL customers with an active Wi-Fi pack can connect to the hotspots via My BSNL app. BSNL said that the International Wi-Fi service has been discontinued only for Android users, so maybe iOS users can still avail it, but we’re not sure about this at the moment....

Even if you are unaware, let us iterate that the Vasantham plan of Rs 96 from BSNL comes with no data benefit, but there are voice calling based freebies. For example, the plan offers 21 days of voice calling daily capped at 250 minutes similar to the other plans....

After months of wait, the telecom operators in India were granted the relief package that they can use for their dues. COAI, the representative body of Indian telecom operators has claimed that the relief package is a clear indication of the intention of the Indian government towards the much-needed structural reforms that will be taken towards the telecom industry. Notably, COAI represents the telecom operators in the country such as Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea....

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Finance Ministry (FinMin) are in advanced stage discussions about the relief package that is to be provided to the telecom sector of India. Last week, the Cabinet had refused to hear the DoT’s proposal for a relief package for the telecom industry. But that doesn’t mean the relief package won’t come at all. Sooner or later, the Cabinet will have to hear it, and that is why telcos, especially Vodafone Idea (Vi), will be eagerly waiting to hear from the government....

We are still months away from the launch of the OnePlus 9 series and a CAD render of the standard OnePlus 9 already popped up online. This could mean that OnePlus is preparing an early launch for its next flagship series. A recent report said that the OnePlus 9 series would launch in March 2021, whereas the Galaxy S21 series could launch in January itself. After the OnePlus 9, the OnePlus 9 Pro renders have leaked online for the first time. And as we expected, the phone looks very identical to the OnePlus 8 Pro. These early renders of the OnePlus 9 Pro suggest the phone will have a quad-camera setup, curved display of 6.7-inch in size and a glass back. OTT Apps and Role of ISPs In a report released in September, KPMG said that the content partnerships with telecom players including ISPs have emerged as preferred distribution channels for OTT players. In its survey, KMPG said that three out of 10 respondents watch OTT content through telecom platforms, highlighting the importance of the particular distribution medium. It has to be noted that India had 19.14 million wired broadband subscribers by the end of December, according to the data from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai)....

Ericsson, a Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company, has launched a new radio for the CSPs (Communication Service Providers). The radio is called Radio 6646, and it is a triple-band, tri-sector 5G radio. What’s great about the radio is that it would enable the CSPs to build sustainable 5G networks. Ericsson said that this particular radio could alone do the job of over nine radios. The Radio 6646 cuts energy consumption by over 40% compared to triple-band, single-sector radios....
