BSNL, the State-run telco is all set to discontinue its prepaid broadband service that is operational across all its telecom circles. Currently, the telco offers prepaid broadband only in the DSL segment and customers can avail of unlimited high-speed broadband internet access sans the concern of facing expensive monthly charges. It offered benefits such as mobility, sharing of DSL broadband connections, and control on internet charges among others. Previously, BSNL’s prepaid broadband subscribers were let to use the broadband account wherever they are across India using an internet-enabled telephone line. Also, it was possible to share a DSL connection with a group of prepaid broadband customers such as professionals, students, etc. Furthermore, the service provider was providing limited and unlimited prepaid broadband plans for all its users across India. All these benefits were available for BSNL prepaid broadband users starting from as low as Rs 200. Despite the affordable pricing and ample set of benefits, this service had a very small customer base. Now, BSNL has decided to close the prepaid broadband service by migrating existing customers to postpaid.

BSNL Discontinues Prepaid Broadband Services

According to a report from KeralaTelecom, the authorities of BSNL have directed the operational telecom circles to migrate the existing prepaid DSL broadband users to postpaid services. This will be done by transferring their existing prepaid account balance as credit related to their respective postpaid accounts. Interested customers can opt for BSNL Bharat Fiber (FTTH) or Bharat Air Fiber (BAF) services as there will be limitations in the maximum upload and download speeds. Already, BSNL launched a special discount scheme for its existing landline customers who are switching to BSNL FTTH. As a part of this promotional offer, landline customers can avail of up to Rs 600 discount while they migrate to BSNL Fiber. Now, customers can retail their landline number and upgrade their old BSNL telephone line to the next-gen ultra-fast Bharat Fiber connection. To retain the landline number, users have to submit the form to the BSNL telephone exchange or customer service center. Notably, the BSNL FTTH monthly plans start from Rs 399 and offer 30 Mbps download speed. Also, these plans offer unlimited voice calls for free of cost without any additional charges.
